Technical SEO. The part that stops things working.

Technical SEO is not a growth channel. It is the set of faults that stop everything else from working, and a site can look completely fine while carrying all of them.

Rockford · Northern Illinois · The Chicago suburbs
A tradesman at the open back of a van in a garage at dusk, checking something on a tablet.

Nothing here is visible from the front.

A page that is not indexed cannot rank however good it is. Two URLs for the same page split whatever authority it had. A slow first paint on a phone loses the visitor before the content arrives. None of that shows up when you look at your own website on your own laptop.

So this work starts with a crawl rather than an opinion, and it produces a list in the order that the faults actually cost you something, which is rarely the order a tool reports them in.

What actually gets checked.

Four groups. Most sites have something in two of them, and one page in a hundred has something in all four.

Can it be crawled and indexed

Robots rules, sitemaps, noindex left on from a staging site, pages orphaned with no link into them. The faults that make a page invisible rather than unpopular.

Is it one page or four

Trailing slashes, http and https, www and not, parameters, print versions. Every duplicate path splits a page against itself, and canonical tags fix it in an afternoon.

How fast is it on a phone

On a real connection rather than a desktop test. Images, fonts, scripts and layout shift, measured where your customers are rather than where the tool is.

Does the structure say anything

Headings in an order, internal links that point somewhere useful, structured data that matches what is actually on the page rather than what somebody wished was.

Technical SEO is maintenance, not a campaign. It gets a site out of its own way. What happens after that is the content and the listing doing their jobs.

What it will not do.

This is the easiest work in search to sell as a permanent retainer and the least honest to sell that way.

A clean site does not rank on cleanliness

Fixing the technical faults removes the reasons you cannot rank. It does not supply a reason you should. That is the content, and the backlinks pointing at it, and anybody selling technical work as growth is selling the wrong half.

Most of it is finite

The crawl finds a list, the list gets fixed, and then it is a check rather than a project. We would rather hand you a finished list than bill for finding the same six things every month.

A perfect score is not the goal

Chasing a hundred in a testing tool costs real money for changes nobody using the site will feel. We fix what affects a person or a crawler and we stop.

Nobody buys a plan they haven't seen.

The free audit is a look at what you already have and what it is costing you, sent over with nothing to sit through. The plan is a conversation about where the business is and where you want it to get to, and it ends with a path written down rather than a quote. Or you call, and somebody who works on accounts picks up.
