An interpreter seen from behind in a booth at the back of a conference room, headphones on, one hand on the console, a lamp and notes on the desk, the delegates and a Chicago skyline out of focus through the glass.

Nine searches that end in a booking.

Atlas Language Services sends interpreters into courtrooms, conference booths and boardrooms, and translates the documents that go with them. They work out of Crystal Lake, Illinois, for clients all over the world. A language company can rank for almost anything with the word translate in it, and almost none of it turns into work. These are the searches that do.

“LuccaAM has been a lifesaver. We are a small company, but working with LuccaAM has allowed us to hand off SEO and digital marketing to the pros, which allows us to focus on what we do best.”

Terms

Nobody hires an interpreter by searching translate.

They search for consecutive interpretation. For a legal translation agency. For a certificate of translation accuracy. For hybrid interpretation, when half the meeting is in the room and half of it is on a screen. Each of those searches is small, and each one is somebody with a date in the calendar and a problem to solve.

Those are the terms the service pages were rewritten around. Here is one of them as Google answered it on the day this was written.

Atlas is the first result on the page. Above Lionbridge, above the map, and eight places above TransPerfect, whose own listing in that same result calls it the world's largest provider of global legal translation services. It is a search anybody can run, so run it. Under it is where all nine terms sit now against where each of them started, with page one shaded; hybrid interpretation came from the sixth page to the top of the first.

Focus

We pointed the site at the people who can hire them.

For years the site grew, and a lot of that growth was never going to turn into work. One article about machine translation ended up third in Indonesia for the word translate: hundreds of thousands of appearances a quarter, in front of people who wanted a free tool. Atlas puts a certified interpreter in a courtroom. Meanwhile the pages that sell that work were sitting on page five, where nobody looks.

Atlas works for clients all over the world, so this was never about where a reader happens to be. It was about what they came for. So the effort went where the work is: the service pages rewritten around the terms a buyer of interpreting actually types, and the site aimed at those searches rather than at the ones that merely counted. It appears less often now and far higher: its average position across everything it appears for went from 29 to 11. Fewer readers, and many more of them able to become clients, which is the trade worth making every time. The line is Google's own reading of the site, month by month, climbing from page three to page one.

Who finds them now.

All of it is Google's own reading of the site, and every line can be checked in the client's account.

  • On page one for the work they sellSeven of the nine searches a buyer of interpreting or legal translation actually types now sit on page one, where one did before. The other two are climbing toward it. The chart above has each one.
  • Buyers rather than browsersThe site now reaches the work it sells: interpreting, legal translation, certified documents. The readers it no longer draws were after a free translation tool, and were never going to be clients.
  • Near the top of the page, not buried on itAverage position across every search the site appears for: 29 before, 11 now. Page three to page one.
  • Years of compounding, not a campaignWe have run their search since 2018. Visits from search grew 2.6 times over three years before the focus was narrowed, which is what a long relationship does, and it is why narrowing it was safe to do.

You do not need everybody to find you.You need the ones with a date in the calendar and a problem to solve.

Nobody buys a plan they haven't seen.

The free audit is a look at what you already have and what it is costing you, sent over with nothing to sit through. The plan is a conversation about where the business is and where you want it to get to, and it ends with a path written down rather than a quote. Or you call, and somebody who works on accounts picks up.
