Website speed optimization. Fast on your laptop. Not on theirs.
Almost every site we are asked to look at is quick in the office and slow in a van in the rain. That second one is where your customer is, and it is the only measurement that decides anything.

The first two seconds decide it.
Not the total load time, which nobody waits for. What matters is when the main thing appears, whether it moves once it has, and whether the page responds when somebody taps it. Everything after that is measurement for its own sake.
And the causes are boring and repeatable: images sent at four times the size they display, fonts that block the text, a script for a tool nobody uses any more, and a layout that jumps as things arrive.

This page reached you in a moment.
That is not a lab score. It is the time from your tap to the headline being on screen, on whatever connection you are on right now. Here is where it went.
- This page weighed
- …
- Your connection, just now
- …
- The largest thing on screen arrived in
- …
This page: …. The arithmetic is size divided by the speed we measured on your line a moment ago; a real page also waits on its server and its scripts, so this is the kind end of it.
Your browser did not share its timing, so there is nothing honest to show here. Have us measure your site instead.
What actually makes it faster.
Four changes carry most of the result on most small business sites, and none of them is a plugin.
Images at the size they are shown
Resized, compressed, in a modern format, and told what size they are before they arrive so the page stops jumping. This alone fixes half the sites we open.
Fonts that do not block the words
Preloaded, swapped rather than hidden, and cut to the weights actually used. Text you can read at once beats text in the right font a second later.
Scripts that earn their place
Chat widgets, trackers, sliders and the tool somebody trialled in 2023. Every one costs the first paint, and most sites are carrying two or three nobody would miss.
Measured on a phone
Field data from real visits rather than a lab score on a desktop. The number that matters is what your customers experienced, not what a test machine managed.
Speed is not a ranking trick. It is the difference between a person waiting and a person leaving, and the ranking follows from that.
What we won't chase.
This is the area where the tooling encourages spending real money on things nobody feels.
The last fifteen points usually cost more than the first eighty and change nothing a visitor notices. We fix what a person experiences and then we stop.
Caching helps and it does not resize your images or remove a script. Sites with three performance plugins fighting each other are common and slower for it.
If the server takes a second before it sends anything, no amount of front-end work fixes that. We will tell you when the answer is a better host rather than more billable hours.
Nobody buys a plan they haven't seen.
The free audit is a look at what you already have and what it is costing you, sent over with nothing to sit through. The plan is a conversation about where the business is and where you want it to get to, and it ends with a path written down rather than a quote. Or you call, and somebody who works on accounts picks up.
